Betty Barnes Murphy, 88, of Hamburg, died Wednesday, January 10, 2018. Mrs. Murphy was a native and lifelong resident of Hamburg. She went to nursing school at St. Vincent's in Little Rock and worked many years as a Registered Nurse in Ashley and Desha Counties. Mrs. Murphy taught Nursing at Great River Vo-Tech School for many years and retired from the Ashley County Medical Center. She was a lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church. Mrs. Murphy was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and she will be dearly missed. She is preceded in death by a son, John Moore; a step-daughter, Brenda Marshall; her mother, Jessica Cleo Byrd Barnes; her father and step-mother, L.T and Mary Elizabeth Regnier Barnes; seven brothers, Bill, Leonard, Robert, P.E., James, Jerry and Carl L. "Buddy" Barnes. She is survived by her devoted and loving husband of 39 years, Ed Murphy of Hamburg; two sons, Jim Moore of Fort Worth, Texas and Richard Moore of Fayetteville; a daughter, Beth Moore of Houston, Texas; a step-son, Mike Murphy and wife, Ginny, of Hamburg; a step-daughter, Mary Rodgers of McGehee; a sister, Sue Stell of Hamburg; a brother, Michael Barnes and wife, Ethel, of Georgetown, Texas; a sister-in-law, Betty Barnes of Hamburg and a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Funeral services are 2 p.m., Saturday, January 13, 2018 with Rev. Greg Comer officiating. Burial will be in the Dailey Cemetery. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m., Friday at the funeral home.
