Marilyn L. Brooks, age 78, passed away suddenly Thursday, May 31st at her home in East End. She was born the daughter of R.D. Bumgardner and Nettie Palmer Bumgardner Schmeckenbecker on October 25, 1939 in Little Rock, Ark. She was a graduate of Fuller High School in 1956. She was retired as a homemaker. She had a sweet smile and gentle soul. She loved cooking, sewing, shopping, going to church, being around her family and mostly being Nanny to her four grandchildren. She was noted for her peanut brittle that she made at Christmas to hand out to clients for Donald Brooks Surveying. In her later years, her passion turned to making quilts which she and her husband gave to friends, family and every newborn in the family. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Donald Brooks, a son Donnie Brooks, a daughter Cherie Cole, a son in law Craig Cole, all of Little Rock, four grandchildren, Zac (fiancé Amy Allen), Tyler, Lauren and Christian Cole, two sisters in law, Judy Martin and Delores Krisell, one brother in law, Junior Krisell, a multitude of nieces, nephews and cousins. She is proceeded in death by her parents and a brother Presley Bumgardner and several brothers and sisters in law. Visitation will be Sunday, June 3 from 5 to 7 at East Union Baptist Church. The funeral will be Monday at 2 at East Union Baptist with a burial at Salem Cemetery, all located in East End.
