Geraldine Fay "Jerry" (MeMe) Matheny, 87, of Perryville, Ark., went to be with her heavenly father on June 3, 2018. She was born in Bigelow, Ark., on March 1, 1931, the daughter of Harvey and Myrtle Waddle Tarkington. She was the widow of Loyd Hulen Matheny and was of the Baptist Faith. Jerry had a variety of positions; she was a meat wrapper for over thirty years. After retirement she went to work with her husband in stores doing demonstrations on store products. In 1977 in San Juan, Puerto Rico, Jerry traveled with her Postmaster spouse on a Postal Convention. It was at this convention she started a trend by establishing a hospitality room for the Arkansas Branch of the National League of Postmasters when postmasters and their family could come together and eat during State and National Conventions. This saved many families the extra expense of food during their stay. She continued this tradition for the next twenty-nine years after Loyd retired. It was a great enjoyment to her to provide this care. She was Mother Advisor to the Western Hills Lodge Order of the Rainbow girls, and a member of the Order of the Easter Star. She is survived by her children, Debbie Porter (Greg) of Arlington, Tenn., Tammy Beck (Brent) of Perryville, Ark., and son, Alan Matheny (Shelly) of Bryant, Ark.; grandchildren, Wendy Porter, Alexander Porter, Holly Wright, Whitney Wright, Mary Lawrence, and Brent Beck, Jr. and Jorgan Beck; eleven great grandchildren; brother, Eugene Waddle (Charlotte) of Pangburn, Ark. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, brothers, Woodrow W. Burroughs and Roy A. Waddle. Visitation will be from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Friday, June 8th at First Baptist Church in Perryville, Ark. Funeral services will be Saturday, June 9th at the Church starting at 10:00 a.m., with Reverend Jason Campbell and Reverend Bill Nowell officiating. Burial will be held at Forest Hills Memorial Park in Alexander, Ark., beginning at 2:00 p.m. Arrangements by Little Rock Funeral Home, (501)224-2200. Jerry's online guestbook may be signed at www.littlerockfuneralhome.com.
