Retired Chief Master Sergeant JB Moody was born June 20, 1940 to the late Reverend Alex Moody Sr. and Bennie Beatrice Washington Moody in Tyronza, Ark. He transitioned from this life to the next on 10 March 2018 at 12:50 p.m. at his home with his "baby girl" and wife by his side. Preceded in death by both parents and a sister, LC Moody Tyler. While working the fields on the farm with his family, Mother would often yell at him to get back to work and stop looking up in the sky gazing at every air plane that passed over. He would say, "one day, I am going to fly one of those." Unbeknown to many, this came true. He served his country as a professional Flight Engineer for over 20 years. Not only did he realize this for himself, but he was instrumental in recruiting and training others to do the same. Chief Moody entered the United States Air Force in June of 1959 after graduating from Central High School in Parkin, Ark. where he earned the rank of Chief Master Sergeant. He served 27 years and six months. Chief Moody did many tours overseas to include Vietnam, Thailand, The Philippians, Germany, Greece, Turkey and Guam. Chief earned many decorations while serving his country. After retiring from the Air Force in Nov of 1986, he continued working as the Chief Flight Engineer instructor and training Coordinator on Little Rock Air Force Base for 16 years. He is a Distinguished Flying Cross recipient and a life time member of The Eaker Chapter of the Distinguished Flying Cross Society. He was a great Professional Flight Engineer and Flight Instructor. Chief Moody was instrumental in bringing many into the flying field and worked diligently in helping them succeed. He served at St. Peter's Rock Missionary Baptist Church, in the Cato Community under the leadership of Dr. Clyde E. Kelly as a Deacon, Sunday School Superintendent, Sound Room Engineer and performed other duties around the church. While there, he was a very active and caring member. He married his current wife, Ella M. Grace Moody in July 1974 who stood by him until the very end. Together they have six children. Ella will remember and cherish all things they did and shared together, especially the traveling with Walt & Mary and Charles and Liz. His children: Karen Moody Rodgers (Jim) of Lancaster, Texas; Dianne Yvette Brodeaux of Kansas City, Kan.; Jeffry B. Moody (Dianna) of Kansas City, Kan.; Sidney M. Moody of New Brunsfels, Texas; Cantrice D. Moody Thomas (Fred) of Sherwood, Ark.; and Alexis Marq Moody (Rosa) of Houston, Texas; They will remember him for all the great get togethers that were held just for him and how often he wanted to get all of his children together. His siblings: Alex Moody, Jr. (Brenda) of Chicago, Ill.; L.E. Moody Robinson of Benton Harbor, Mich.; Hazel Moody Smith (Bishop Elijah Smith), of Memphis, Tenn.; Philander Moody and Claudia Moody of Parkin, Ark.; and Weltha B. Moody of North Little Rock, Ark. have cherished memories of him also. His 18 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren have great admiration for their PaPa, PawPaw, Grandfather, Pops, which ever they chose to refer to him as. He was admired and respected by his many nieces and nephews because he was Unca JB. Many other family members and friends will remember him for the person he was and the things he did and taught them. Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Saturday, March 17, 2018 at St. Peters Rock Missionary Baptist Church with Dr. Clyde E. Kelly officiating. Interment will be 10 a.m., Monday, March 19, 2018 at the Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.
