It was a cold wet, stormy December 17, 1928, when Ruby Etta Holleman Carter was delivered by her grandmother, Ina Mae Winn Newman-Hannah to Wm Guthrie and Zylpha Newman Holleman. Dr. A. Hassel arrived in time to complete her birth certificate. Ruby left this earth on May 20, 2018, to be with her Lord and to be reunited with her husband 59 years after his death. As she grew up to become a young woman she helped her parents by working in the fields and milking cows. On December 24, 1946, she married the love of life, Howard E. Carter; however, on December 22, 1958, he would lose his life in a plane crash while stationed at Elmendorf USAF Base in Anchorage, Alaska. Ruby returned to her home in Rose Bud to rear her four daughters. She was a talented seamstress and enjoyed creating new dishes in her kitchen. She taught her girls to sew, cook, and preserve foods. Ruby was a member of Mt. Bethel Free Will Baptist Church. In years past she created much of the crafts used in Vacation Bible School. She had been a member of the Rose Bud Home Extension Club and was a 4-H leader. She loved working her flower beds, reading the local newspaper and books which were informative and entertaining. Ruby was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Captain Howard Carter, USAF, and one daughter, Susan Steiner. She is survived by three daughters, Barbara Turner, Deer Park, Alabama, Pamela Carter-Corn, Rose Bud, Arkansas, Marjie Beth (Brian) Gregory, Nevada, Missouri, her brother, Kenneth Holleman, Vilonia, Arkansas, nine grandchildren, Julia (Randy) Dyson, Howard (Christon) Davidson, Kimberly Middaugh, Sarah (Matt) Bell, Amanda (Heath) Hutchison, Michael Stiner, Emmalea (Jim) Von Feldon, Bethany Gregory (Derek Masters), Kristen (JD) Smart and 13 great-grandchildren as well as many nieces, nephews, family and friends. Visitation will be Wednesday, May 23rd, 6-8 p.m. at Roller Daniel Funeral Home, Searcy, Arkansas. Funeral Services will be held 1:30 p.m. at Mt. Bethel Free Will Baptist Church with interment at Magness Chapel Cemetery, Heber Springs, Arkansas. Online guestbook: rollerfuneralhomes.com/searcy.
