This photo from May 4, 1943, shows Women’s Army Corps members getting food in McCastlain Hall, the first standalone cafeteria at the University of Central Arkansas in Conway. About 1,800 women were stationed at what was then Arkansas State Teachers College from March 1943 through March 1944, said Gayle Seymour, associate dean of the College of Fine Arts and Communication and co-writer of a grant to renovate and restore the 1939 building.
