Ahhh, summer. With its blistering heat and humidity, it's no wonder Arkansans flock to the water. And because we're the Natural State, there's no dearth of places to head when the thermometer goes way up. So we rounded up a few of the best swimming holes around to enjoy these next few weeks. This is by no means an exhaustive list. In fact, we know we've left off popular Spring Lake and Charlton Recreation Area near Crystal Springs (the latter has been closed lately because of the flooding this spring). So leave a comment on your favorite swimming hole and add to the list!
Woolly Hollow State Park (near Greenbrier): The park’s swimming beach on 40-acre Lake Bennett has long been a favorite central Arkansas swimming hole. Surrounded by the natural beauty of the Ozark Mountain foothills, the swimming beach includes a bathhouse, snack bar, and lifeguards. A small swimming fee is charged here. After swimming here, rent a park canoe, kayak, pedal boat, or fishing boat, and see more of the lake. To reach the park, take Exit #125 off I-40 at Conway and travel 12 miles north of U.S. 65, then go six miles east on Ark. 285.
