Food: Addicts of La Hacienda's cuisine can now get a fix north of the river at Cotija's - a close relative of the minichain that also has a lunch location in downtown Little Rock - starting with the complimentary red and green salsas served with tortilla chips. While the menu is varied, it's not as vast as some Mexican restaurants, with their endless, dizzying lists of combinations. Cotija's divides its dinner entrees into combinations (only seven), garden plates, fajitas, tacos, burritos, quesadillas, seafood and specials. The Shrimp a la Veracruzana ($15.95), featuring a plentiful portion of shrimp mixed with a spicy pico de gallo and a smoky chipotle sauce, served with tortillas, rice and beans, was highly potent and pleasing.
Mood: Located in a dry area of North Little Rock, it does not and cannot serve alcohol like nearby competitors offering Mexican beer and margaritas. But stay tuned. We're told the restaurant is pursuing a private club license. In the meantime, the quick carryout service and a handy drive-through make it easy for those who want to retrieve dinner and drink at home. Those who choose to dine at the petite restaurant will be greeted and led to a table or booth. Walls with a stucco effect are painted in Mexican colors and accented with paintings. There are small fake flower decorations on the tables. The service is very friendly and fast.
