Restaurants of long-standing stature like The Faded Rose can go through peaks and valleys of quality from year to year. The happy news for Faded Rose fans is that the Louisiana-focused food seems notably better these days than when I previously reviewed the two locations of Ed David's amiable operation in 2003.
My opinion back then was lukewarm. I described the dining in faint-praise parlance as "enjoyable rather than memorable" at the original Rebsamen Park Road site, opened in 1982, and its Bowman Road sibling, in business since 1988.
"Memorable" would still be a stretch, as with most any restaurant anywhere lacking Michelin three-star status and the concomitant astronomical price tag. But "really good" fills the bill in 2008.
