Zaxby's, a semi-fast-food restaurant that serves chicken fingers, wings and sandwiches and loves the letter "z" is one of Sherwood's new hot "zpots." Zaxby's sells mainly boneless chicken tender selections, with the only bone-in option being seasoned wings. We decided to go with the 10-piece Chicken Fingerz ($6.99), but one can go smaller with five ($3.79), or larger with 20 ($12.99). I was pleasantly surprised by the taste and crispiness of the tenders, which come with the signature Zax Sauce reminiscent of Thousand Island dressing with other stuff thrown in. Zaxby's sells Buffalo Fingerz in five-, 10- and 20-piece orders ($4.29-$14.99), same with wings ($3.79 to $12.99), available in Wimpy, Original, Tongue Torch, Nuclear, Insane, Teriyaki, BBQ and Hot Honey Mustard flavors. There are Zappetizers (all $2.59). Our favorite is the Spicy Fried Mushrooms, which are chunks of mushroom that are breaded and deep-fried, and really not the least bit spicy. On our next visit, my son and I ordered sandwiches ($5.29) which come with crinkle fries and a pickle spear. I ordered the Zaxby's Club, which is chicken fingers, bacon, lettuce, tomato, mayonnaise and cheese on Texas toast. My son went with the Cajun Club, made with blackened chicken, bacon, lettuce, tomato, ranch dressing and American cheese on a toasted bun. We were both pleased with the sandwiches, but the fries were rather boring and not quite done enough. Zaxby's also sells salads ($5.99 to $6.29) and Meal Dealz, all of which cost $4.99, and come with crinkle fries and a regular beverage. There are two Zax Kidz meals ($3.29) with choice of chicken fingers or a grilledcheese sandwich, with fries and a drink. - Rosemary Boggs
