Concrete walkways, patios and driveways can be beautiful and inexpensive - but for those worried about the environmental impact of their hard-scaping, there are paver options that retain much of the utility and beauty of traditional poured concrete.

For large projects - long driveways or parking areas, for instance - another environment-friendly alternative to traditional concrete slabs is permeable pavement. Unlike pavers, permeable pavement is mixed and poured much like typical concrete but is far more difficult to install and requires professional expertise, the experts said.
