A Little Rock police officer who said he was too sick to respond to a January bar fight across the street from his River Market kiosk lost an appeal Thursday when the city’s Civil Service Commission voted unanimously to uphold Chief Stuart Thomas’ decision to fire him.

North Little Rock police Tuesday identified the two officers involved in the Friday night shooting death of a man who fired a rifle at them. Officers Mark Wright, a 10-year veteran of the department, and Mike Miller, a veteran of 14 years, stood in an alley behind 716 Water St. in the city’s Rose City neighborhood about 9:30 p.m. checking on a 911 call about a break-in.

North Little Rock Police Chief Danny Bradley on Friday defended an officer who shot a man the day before on a high school campus as another officer clung to the hood of the man’s car, saying he was “comfortable” that the shooting officer’s actions were justified.
