Sometimes my dog moves her paws when she's sleeping. She does a paddling motion like she's trying to run and she makes little sounds. It looks like she's dreaming. Do dogs dream? What would she dream about?

We go to the lake a lot during the summer. Now we have a new dog, a mixed-breed from a local rescue group. Osgood is midsize, about 36 pounds. We hope he's a swimmer, but we don't know yet. We want to take him out on the boat. Does he need a life jacket? Any tips on getting him used to water would be appreciated.

I was trimming matted hair on my cat's neck and accidentally cut off a couple of whiskers. Will they grow back? I feel awful about it even though it didn't seem to hurt him.

We need some advice. We have taken in a little Heinz 57 that's about 3 years old. She strayed from home about a month ago and it took almost a week before we could catch her. We could not ask for a better dog except for one thing -- she will not wear a collar or harness. We have tried putting a collar on her without a leash and she only lies down and will not move. Hook a leash to it and she bucks and rolls like the devil has a hold of her. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

We found a box turtle living in our backyard and my kids want to keep it for a pet. I don't want a turtle in the house, but am open to some sort of outdoor arrangement just for the summer. We have made a pen with chicken wire for now. What more should we do? And any info about the turtle and taking care of it would be appreciated.

My dog, Mollie, got an ugly sore spot on the top of one leg. She rubbed against the door frame and constantly licked and scratched the spot. The veterinarian said it was a "hot spot" and cleaned it up. He gave her some antibiotics. Mollie is better now, but I would like to know more about this and what can be done to keep it from happening again. I bet other dog owners would be interested.

What can I do to make my short-haired cat shed less? I got a short-haired cat thinking that she wouldn't shed as much as a long-haired one, but I was wrong. I have hardwood floors so I sweep every day. I know this sounds extreme, but can I shave my cat? (Really, I'm only half-kidding.) Anyway, she's strictly an indoor pet. So what about shaving?

For years now, I have used raised bowls for my dogs' food and water because I heard this decreases the risk of bloat. Last week, I read that using these raised bowls increases the risk of dogs getting bloat. I'm confused! Can you tell me which is correct? I want what's best for my babies.

Are there any benefits to giving probiotics to my cat? Are they safe? I want to make sure my cat is as healthy as she can be.
