Polarization and trust June 18, 2013 at 7:07 a.m.

Lack of trust in government has been an ongoing project of a small group of ultra wealthy who see government as in impediment to their ability to run the country to their benefit. They sow seeds of mistrust and anger and liberally water it with their money and have succeeded in raising a major crop of people who ignorantly hate the government that has made the type of life they have possible. Gitz is a minor waterboy for them.

Climate change warnings June 18, 2013 at 6:20 a.m.

It may be expensive to cut down CO2 emissions but the cost of not doing it will break the calculator. Right now insurance companies are seeing the light about the wild weather we are having and are raising rates to protect their bottom lines. Many people who were hit by Sandy are being told to raise their homes and businesses several feet in the air or face $30,000 a year in insurance costs.

Huckabee tells pastors to take risks June 12, 2013 at 8:22 a.m.

jkc78, there is no problem if individual Christians want to be involved in politics. Even though it is not strictly following the example of Jesus, it's isn't prohibited anywhere I know of either. The problem comes with church leaders take political stands in their official position trying to steer votes to a party or candidate. It is both illegal if the church is tax exempt and not tending to the real business of the church. Jesus said his kingdom was not of this world, so church leaders need to keep that in mind and spend their energy and time preparing their flocks for the next.

Huckabee tells pastors to take risks June 11, 2013 at 7:53 a.m.

This is another example of Christians not following Jesus. Jesus at every turn avoided being brought into the politics of his day. If you think things are bad today, take a look at any place in the 1st century Rome Empire. The Jews of his days wanted a political messiah who would lead them against Rome and the sinners they saw all around them. Jesus refused being drawn in to politics regardless of how bad things were around him. His real mission was more important and all Christians today should remember that and follow his lead.

Law spurs solar boom in Japan June 10, 2013 at 8:13 a.m.

This quote from the article above is not true. "There is a downside: Renewable energies are several times pricier than nuclear power or fossil fuels such as coal, oil and gas." In 2010 USD/MWh, conventional coal cost is 99.6, Advanced Coal with CCS is 140.7, Natural Gas Conventional Combined Cycle is 68.6, Natural Gas Advanced CC with CCS is 92.8, Wind is 92.8, and Solar PV is 156.9. As you can see from this, wind is very cost competitive especially with those forms that lower the carbon output. These are 2010 figures and every year solar and wind costs have been reduced through inovation.

U.S. cuts squeezing Head Start June 9, 2013 at 9:46 a.m.

Cutting Head Start to balance the budget is perfect example of penny wise and pound foolish. Not only will the cut children not get the training they need to start school successfully which will lead many of them to fail later on and become burdens on society but immediately, poor parents who have minimum wage jobs will have to quit work to take care of their children. Government costs will probably go up due to lost jobs more than fully funding Head Start would cost.

Scout troop finds new home in Jacksonville June 8, 2013 at 8:05 a.m.

Churches who are more about patting themselves on the back and playing God by passing judgement on anyone and everyone are not a fit place for Scouts anyway.

Union ‘plain wrong,’ Wal-Mart exec says June 8, 2013 at 8 a.m.

In Bangledesh when the garment workers tried to unionize people were jailed and in some cases killed. As a result nothing was ever done about the horrible, dangerous, $37 a month jobs. There needs to be a check against owners who do not care for anything but how much money they can squeeze out of people.
