In an imperfect world why is it that no one believes in accidents anymore and that someone is to blame for everything. I'm sure if I was one of those affected I would be a little angry to say the least but this is beginning to look like a money grab since all involved know one thing...that Exxon/Mobile has the money, has basically been demonized by society and no one will care even if an injustice is done since they are the bad guys now.
Hey, I don't like Exxon either. When the economy went to pot their credit card interest went from 8% to 25% overnight. Of forgive me it was really just 24.99%. My mistake.The poor little girl I talked to said " it's the economy that make us do this" Well, I was living in the same "economy" they were but they could have cared less. No matter how much the economy improves does anyone think the interest will ever go back down. Sure it will about the next time it snows in hell. After re-living that moment I'm about to change my mind about the first paragraph above.

McDaniel needed to redeem himself some way and I bet he thanks his lucky stars every day that Exxon/Mobile came to his rescue just in the nick of time. Go get'em , and don't do anything inappropriate. Feeling better now.

This is still a human baby even in the case of rape, incest etc. It shouldn't matter. It is still a human life.

I really don't know how it would work out but I bet that the bad guys planning to rob, say, a convenience store, muight just turn around and leave if they saw the clerk with a 40 cal se;mi auto strappep on. Crime deterred with no shots fired. Just a thought.

If the surcharge is to cover double credit for time served then isn't the solution to just not give any elected official double credit. Why do they deserve that?.

Good for you. I didn't realize what a good job I had until I lost it 10 or so years ago and started buying individual health insurance. At first the premiums were tolerable-like $325 for a $2500 deductible. As the years passed premiums kept going up and I kept increasing the deductible until I was paying $10,000 a year in premiums for a $10,000 deductible. When at last things went sour in my business i had to drop it altogether. I'm sure they love me. I must have paid in $75,000 in premiums and only exceeded my duductible one year when I was attacked by a table saw that I always thought was my friend. That's my hard luck story and there are pleanty more but it has little to do with your column except for the shared pain in the butt ( right about where I keep my wallet); but venting is good for the soul and I feel much better now, thank you.

Your story is about basic fairness and the things you are scratching your head over deserve an answer. Unfortunantly, your answer, if you ever get one, is more likely than not to be a carefully worded document saying- in a most kindly fashion- something to the effect of " I got mine and to hell with you".
