Around 2,200 fourth-grade students saw a performance by the Horse Tales Literacy Project on Thursday in Fayetteville. Among the things they saw was “Frederik the Great,” Frederik, a black friesian stallion from Rogers. Frederik resembled The Black Stallion, the title character from Walter Farley’s bestselling fiction series about a horse and his young owner, Alec Ramsey. Frederik’s run was part of the Horse Tales Literacy Project, a program that aims to develop a love of literacy in children by connecting them with horses.
