The state’s top highway official was pulled over for speeding by the Arkansas State Police on Tuesday, but he wasn’t issued a ticket. In a video recording of the stop on Interstate 540 in Springdale, the state trooper who pulled over Scott Bennett, the director of the Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department, is heard telling Bennett that he was “clocked at 81 mph.” Bennett acknowledged in an interview Friday that he was speeding, but documentation of his trip through a department fleet management system showed he was driving no faster than 72 mph before he was pulled over. “Whether I was going 2 mph over or 20 mph over, I was still speeding,” Bennett said in the interview.
