When strength and endurance slump, so do we; joyful caterpillars have fun with metamorphosis; 7-Day Menu Planner

Looking out the wet window through the drizzle to the seemingly permanent puddle across the street, it’s a little hard to recall that June is a lovely time to be outdoors in Arkansas. But the animals remember.

Critters are crawling all over our neighborhoods, including the neighbors’ free range cat, crouching under cars to get out of the rain.

Advice from the latest Ask the Vet column could save that cat. Most pet owners know antifreeze as a hazard to dogs, cats and kids, especially when a leak drips onto a driveway. But one seemingly common-sense solution — hosing it off the drive — is a surprisingly bad idea. Read veterinarian Lee Pickett’s column here to learn why.

All this rain also makes it hard to imagine June as the opening of outdoor festival season in Arkansas, but it is. To help families make the most of their fully vaccinated freedoms, ADG Families also has added a link to reporter Nyssa Kruse’s handy list of seven big events that are set for this month.

Never fear — the sun will return and with it all the glories of Arkansas in June. Enjoy!
