LITTLE ROCK Jim Strode is just on the sixth draft of the Park Avenue plan, but he's already received more than 100 calls from brokers, contractors and potential tenants who've heard he bought the old University Mall in midtown Little Rock with plans to redevelop it.
"I've never seen anything like this before," Strode said. "We are somewhat amazed. Usually, we're calling on them."
Strode, who is head of Strode Property Co. of Dallas, knows Park Avenue will have retail, residential and possibly office space, but exactly how those elements manifest themselves will take a while, he said. There may be as many as 30 versions of the plan before it is finalized, Strode said in a telephone interview Wednesday.
After University Mall is knocked down, which Strode expects to happen about the first of the year, it will be replaced with a "lifestyle center" with a Main Street feel.
