Clinics out to prove women can run, walk and finish 5K

At first the women and girls must gather their courage to meet in darkness on school tracks and city walking paths. Night falls early in late February.

But these Arkansans long for a better physical condition. They hunger for the health-giving habits of walking and running.

They want to prove that they, too, can finish a 5K.

And so bravely they show up, by the hundreds, for each late-winter installment of the Women Run Arkansas club's Women Can Run/Walk group-training clinics.

The 11th annual clinic series will begin in 28 cities across the state next week. They will offer the same thing they've always offered: women helping other women learn to run or walk for fitness.
