Several capable of fast finishes

— A handful of runners with impressive times have registered for the Little Rock Marathon, but race director Bill Torrey said he doesn't expect any to set personal records Sunday.

Among the entrants are Kenyan John Rotich, with a best of 2 hours, 12 minutes, 5 seconds, run in the Prague Marathon in 2002; Kenyan William Serem, who ran the Conenergy Marathon, in Hamburg, Germany, in 2:15:18 on April 29, 2007; and Ethiopian Tamrat Ayalew, winner of the Marine Corps Marathon in 2:22:18 on Oct. 28, 2007, in Washington, D.C.

Kenyan Hellen Rotich won the women's division of the San Antonio Marathon on Nov. 11, 2007, in 2:49:51, and has run as fast as 2:41. Melissa Gillette of Niles, Mich., finished second at the Rocket City Marathon, in Huntsville, Ala., in 2:58:54, on Dec. 8, 2007. Gillette finished third in the Little Rock Marathon last year in 3:01:17.
