RIVER VALLEY and OZARK AREA — Conway Symphony Orchestra presented its Christmas concert, “Tutus and Tinsel,” Dec. 5 at the Donald W. Reynolds Performance Hall at the University of Central Arkansas. Joining the musicians were members of the Arkansas Ballet Festival, who performed two numbers, Skaters’ Waltz and scenes from The Nutcracker.
CSO Director Israel Getzov joined members of the ballet company in a pre-concert activity, “Nutcracker Sweets,” in the Brewer-Hegeman Conference Center, adjacent to the performance hall. Young concert-goers were able to meet the conductor and the dancers and be photographed with them. They also were able to learn the story of “The Nutcracker” through storytelling and artwork created by the Conway League of Artists.
Storytellers included Marianne Welch, Nancy Allen, Joyce Miller and Sandra Hudson, all members of the CSO Board of Directors and CSO Guild; and Mary Mosley, CSO Guild member.
Artists creating the posters to help tell the story of “The Nutcracker” were Gene Hatfield, Jessica Peterson, Virginia Potter, Dan Peterson, Rebecca Oswalt and Pauline Butts.
Sweet desserts, hot chocolate and coffee were served during the event.
