ARKANSAS STATE: Red Wolves prepare for opener

— Arkansas State spent the majority of Tuesday's three hour practice working on the game plan for Saturday's season opener against Mississippi Valley State.

"Today wasn't bad," Coach Steve Roberts said after the practice. "I think the [two-day]rest did us some good, but we still had too many mental mistakes and lack of focus at a couple of positions that we will work to get ironed out."

During the first-team period near the end of the workout, senior quarterback Corey Leonard was 2 of 4 passing, while sophomore running back Derek Lawson and senior Reggie Arnold made several nice cuts and runs.

The Red Wolves will practice again today at 3:30 p.m.

"We need great focus on our assignments and game plan," Roberts said. "We need to take the correct steps on our game plan and do things right with technique. If we do that, we will be OK."

Saturday's kickoff at ASU Stadium is 6 p.m.
