Powell out up to 8 weeks with broken foot

— Arkansas forward Marshawn Powell broke a bone in his left foot during a pickup game in Virginia over the weekend but is expected to be ready for fall practice.

Team doctors determined that the break will not need surgery after an evaluation this week, according to a university news release. He's expected to be full speed for the start of fall practices Oct. 15.

"Marshawn is a big part of our program,” Arkansas Coach John Pelphrey said. “We are looking forward to him being as good as he was a year ago.  Injuries are a part of the game and he suffered this while playing. We have the best staff in the country to help him return to the court and I don’t anticipate this affecting his season.”

Powell averaged 14.9 points and a team-leading 6.7 rebounds a game last season.

The rising sophomore participated in two camps this summer, including the LeBron James Skills Academy.

Powell suffered an injury prior to last season as well, when he broke his left hand in the offseason.
