LR Zoo lion loves the milk

Dollar day this Saturday

Got milk? Make sure you keep it away Bakari, the Little Rock Zoo’s newest male lion and milk lover.

Zoo officials on Wednesday introduced the 2-year old big cat, who came to the Little Rock Zoo a year ago from the Pueblo Zoo in Pueblo, Colo.

Zookeepers said they had problems getting Bakari to leave his indoor enclosure until one day, staff members placed a large dish of milk outside. Bakari emerged, emptied the bowl, then tore the milk cartons apart.

Partially in honor of the lactose-loving lion, Coleman Dairy announced their sponsorship of the Zoo, donating more than $50,000 in cash and in-kind product.

Coleman Diary is also sponsoring Dollar Day at the zoo this Saturday, when admission is, you guessed it, $1. Parking will be free.
