Governor intends to close Alexander Human Development Center

— Governor Mike Beebe announced Tuesday that he intends to seek closure of the Alexander Human Development Center. The announcement was made after discussions with officials at the Arkansas Department of Human Services and input from State Consultants.

According to a press release by the governor's office, several issues, including proposed staffing increases, physical plant issues and additional deficiencies, contributed to the decision.

Current AHDC residents will receive help from DHS based on the needs of each individual client.

The AHDC currently houses 109 adult males, many of whom have severe physical and mental health issues.
