RACHEL LEE BORMANN NATHAN LEE POWELL

— Rachel Lee Bormann and Nathan Lee Powell were united in marriage at 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 2, in the garden of the couple’s Bloomington, Ind., home. Kim Heiftje officiated.

Parents of the bride are Nancy Bormann of Hernando, Fla., and Joe Bormann of Mooresville, Ind. She is the granddaughter of LaVerne and Alvin Bormann of Crown Point, Ind., Robert Workman of Paducah, Ky., and Sue Gray of Glasgow, Ky.

Betty and Mike Powell of North Little Rock are the parents of the bridegroom. His grandparents are the late Elaine and John H. Powell and the late Elizabeth and Hubert McAlexander, all of Holly Springs, Miss.

Vows were exchanged under a large maple tree and the bride wore a midnight blue tea-length wrap dress with a tulip skirt.

A reception at KRC Banquets in Bloomington followed the ceremony. Guest tables covered with white tablecloths held hurricane vases surrounded by ivy and filled with river rocks and floating candles. The bride and bridegroom’s table was draped in white and held two tall cut-crystal hurricane candleholders on pedestals with a low arrangement of fall chrysanthemums.

The bride graduated with honors from Indiana University at Bloomington with a bachelor’s degree in social work. She is a social worker with Options Homecare.

The bridegroom attended George Washington University in Washington as a National Merit Scholar and graduated from the School of Visual Arts in New York, where he was awarded the President’s Illustration Award. He is a graphic novelist and winner of the 2009 Eisner Award for Best New Graphic Album, has received two Ignatz awards, was a nominee for the Los Angeles Times Book Award and has received recognition from the National Library Association.

After a wedding trip to Cozumel, Mexico, the couple will live in Bloomington.
