PARTY WITH THE PRINCIPAL Philander Smith welcomes education activist to class

— Steve Perry, education activist and principal of Capital Preparatory Magnet School in Hartford, Conn., was the guest at a Jan. 18 dinner in the Harry R.

Kendall Science and Health Mission Center of Philander Smith College in Little Rock.

Adria and Philander Smith President Walter Kimbrough welcomed attendees that included Philander Smith students;

Little Rock Education Association President Cathy Koehler; Brandeon Harris, master of ceremonies for the lecture; Barbara Shipp, Bless the Mic Street Team member; Little Rock School Board member Greg Adams; and Dream Team mentoring members Debbie Milam, Pat Riley and Marquis Hunt.

After the dinner guests walked to the college’s M.L.

Harris Auditorium to hear a lecture by Perry, whose appearance was the latest in Philander Smith’s Bless the Mic lecture series.
