A vehicle safety inspection on Interstate 40 in Crawford County turned up drugs in the cab of a tractor trailer, according to authorities.
Officers from the Arkansas Highway Police uncovered the cargo Thursday afternoon at the Alma Highway Police Station, said AHP Chief Ron Burks.
Officers discovered around 5½ pounds of methamphetamine and approximately 7½ pounds of heroin.
The driver was identified as Jesus A. Lopez, 42, of Tijuana, Mexico. The truck was reportedly traveling from California to Georgia with a cargo of auto parts.
Lopez was arrested for possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver.
He was being held at the Crawford County jail. He was to have appeared in court this morning for a bond hearing.
