LITTLE ROCK — Supporters of a young man who was shot in the head while handcuffed in the back of an Arkansas patrol car are expected to gather for a vigil in Memphis, Tenn.
The latest vigil for 21-year-old Chavis Carter comes just hours after police in Jonesboro, Ark., released an autopsy report Monday that lists his death as a suicide.
The state crime lab report says the muzzle of a gun was placed against Carter’s right temple when it was fired.
Police have said officers had frisked Carter twice after a traffic stop without finding a gun before he was fatally shot July 28.
The vigil is expected to begin at 6:30 p.m. outside the National Civil Rights Museum in Memphis.
