State agency seeks volunteers to honor with service award

— The Department of Human Services is accepting nominations for the 35th Arkansas Community Service Awards, which honor Arkansans dedicated to volunteer service.

Any member of the public may submit nominations. The three categories of recipients are individual adults, youths and corporations.

A committee of community leaders and volunteers statewide, including past community service award honorees, selects the winners based on whom they think provided outstanding volunteer service that demonstrates conscientiousness and unselfishness for their communities and exemplifies the highest ideals of humanitarianism.

They judge candidates according to specified nomination guidelines and instructions that are posted on the Department of Human Services Division of Community Service and Nonprofit Support website: www.humanservices.arkansas.gov/dcsns.

The Division of Community Service and Nonprofit Support, the governor’s office and KARK-TV, Channel 4, sponsor the event.

Each month a winner will be selected from all the nominations and highlighted on KARK. The committee will select from the monthly winners final honorees in each category to be recognized at a ceremony July 20.

Nomination forms are available online at the Division of Community Service and Nonprofit Support website through the “Arkansas Community Service Awards” link listed under programs.

Forms are available by writing Arkansas Community Service Awards, Department of Human Services Division of Community Service and Nonprofit Support, Box 1437, Slot S-230, Little Rock, Ark., 72203, by e-mailing amanda. may@arkansas.gov or calling the Human Services division at (501) 320-6599.
