Longtime boys basketball coach Marty Barnes announced Monday he will retire from Rogers High School at the end of the academic year.

Barnes, who has spent the last eight seasons at Rogers, won his 600th career game on Jan. 27. He finished his 31-year head coaching tenure with 605 wins.

The 62-year-old had previously spent 11 years at Russellville High School and 12 years as the head coach at Arkansas Tech University.

At Russellville, Barnes won the 1985 state championship.

Rogers finished the 2011-12 season 19-9. The Mounties were the No. 2 overall seed in the 7A-West conference, advancing to the state tournament for the seventh consecutive year.

Barnes finished his eight-year career at Rogers with a 162-66 record.
