A 31-year-old Little Rock man was recovering from multiple gunshot wounds at a Little Rock hospital Tuesday evening, a day after police say his brother-in-law shot him in a dispute over the purchase of a house.

About 9:40 p.m. Monday, officers were called to a house at 6609 Tracy Ave. where they found Dwight Cooper suffering from gunshot wounds to his right foot, buttocks and both legs, a Little Rock police report said.

Cooper, who lives at the house with his wife, Demetria Banks-Cooper, 38, told police that his brother-in-law, Jack Banks, 36, had shot him and then fled in a gray four-door vehicle with Banks-Cooper and another woman, the report said.

After being transported to UAMS Medical Center, Cooper told police that he and his wife had decided to buy a house together, and Banks “did not like the idea and ... had threatened to kill him,” the report said.

Cooper said his wife had called him earlier Monday, and they had agreed to meet at their house, according to a police news release. When Cooper arrived at the house, he found the house’s security code had been changed. He then walked around the house, returning to the front yard where Banks, Banks-Cooper and another woman “were waiting for him,” the news release said.

Banks then pistol-whipped Cooper, threatened to kill him and shot him multiple times with a handgun, the release said. The three then fled in the gray vehicle, the release said.

As of Tuesday evening, no arrests had been made in the shooting. Banks lists an address of 405 College Park Drive in North Little Rock and is described as a black man, 6-feet, 2-inches tall and about 200 pounds, according to the police report. A physical description for Banks-Cooper wasn’t listed on police records.

Cooper was listed in good condition Tuesday evening at UAMS Medical Center, hospital spokesman Jerri Jackson said.

Boy, 2, remains in hospital after fall

A 2-year-old boy remained hospitalized in good condition at Arkansas Children’s Hospital on Tuesday evening after he fell from a Little Rock hotel’s second-floor balcony Monday afternoon, police and a hospital spokesman said.

Braylon Halton suffered a fractured skull and a “small head bleed” after a railing heleaned against gave way at the Super 7 Inn at 9525 Interstate 30 on Monday afternoon, according to a police report. The boy then fell about 8 feet, landing on his head.

Braylon had been “running around” playing with a water gun when the rail broke, his mother, Arlesha Arnold, 29, later told police. Arnold had been nearby on the balcony at the time, talking with a man, later identified as Anthony Kelly, 26, she told police.

She and Kelly immediately ran downstairs to check on the boy when he fell, and she began to scream, prompting her fiance, Christopher Gipson, 20, to come out of the couple’s room, the report said. “When Gipson saw Kelly ... he attacked him,” hitting Kelly in the face, according to a police news release. Gipson later admitted to striking Kelly when “he saw Halton lying on the ground,” the release said.

No charges were filed in the child’s fall, which police say “appeared to be an accident.” 2 sought in holdup of LR Burger King

Little Rock police were seeking at least two men who robbed a Burger King early Monday and fled in a 4-door Toyota Camry bearing “a college fraternity front plate,” according to a police report.

About 1:15 am., employees of the fast-food restaurant at 11410 N. Rodney Parham Road were leaving after closing when two men approached them and ordered them at gunpoint back inside the building, the report said.

The robbers then ordered one employee to open the restaurant’s safe and get out money.

After threatening to kill the employee and taking an unknown amount of cash, the two men fled when a “voice from a handheld radio” asked where the two robbers were, the report said.

A witness outside the restaurant later told police the men fled northbound on Hidden Valley Drive in the Camry. The car’s license plate had three Greek letters, which police noted as “AQA” on the report.

One of the robbers was described as a black man 5 feet, 3 inches tall and weighing 150 pounds with a slight build. The other was described as a 5-feet, 8-inch tall black man weighing 170 pounds with a light complexion. Both men wore black pants and black shirts.

No arrests had been made as of Tuesday evening.
