NLR council may take up hillside cut

The North Little Rock City Council may take up the excavation to a hillside in Park Hill to make room for a church parking lot tonight at its meeting.

The cut has been the subject of much debate since the Planning Commission approved the First Pentecostal Church's request in 2010.

The church at 1401 Calvary Road along Interstate 40 is seeking to add parking spaces. Several Park Hill homeowners oppose the cut, sending a letter to Mayor Patrick Hays and church pastor Joel Holmes.

Hays, the legislation's sponsor, told the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette last week that he is hopeful a compromise can be reached.

The proposal for the cut as been on the council's agenda since November, and earlier this month, the council approved an amendment to reduce the parking spaces sought in the expansion from 445 to 343.

The meeting is at 7 p.m.
