A proposal to name Springdale the "Poultry Capital of the World" is poised to become law in Arkansas after winning final approval from the Legislature on Monday. The House approved Senate Bill 949 on an 85-0 vote.

The Senate unanimously approved the bill last week. A spokesman for Gov. Mike Beebe said he'll likely sign the bill into law.

Sen. Jon Woods of Springdale has said he proposed the bill as a way to help promote the city where Tyson Foods Inc. is headquartered.

The name would be written into a section of state law that names Arkansas' official flower, motto and bird, among other matters.

Did the residents of Springdale want this, or mainly Tyson Foods? Calling it the "Poultry Capitol of the World" conjures unpleasant thoughts of filthy chicken houses and meat packing. Gross, Springdale.

Most people have no idea how commercial chicken is grown. They have the idyllic scene of chickens pecking grain in a verdant green pasture in their minds. So in spite of what the informed know, this may not be as negative as you think. Next, Wal-Mart will demand Bentonville be dubbed the "Retail Capital of the World".

God! Please rush this session of the ledge to an end.....
Please don't allow these idiots to continue to show the world how backward this state can be.
They were instructed to wear suits and ties to give the impression that they were intelligent and could think pass the tips of their nose, but everyday they prove just how stoopid they truly are. These heathens have the nerve to claim they are doing Your will when they are all just paid shills of corporations who only need them to pass legislation that will hurt Your people, while a few wealthy people benefit for what they are doing.

Please give them traveling grace as they leave the state capitol, but please Sir let the rest of their day there be short in number.....Amen Amen & Amen.....

NCNC, you obviously think GOD is a Democrat. I don't think stupidity is exclusively a Republican trait, or any other political party for that matter. I am not beholden to any party. It's why those who think as I do are generally for less government, not more. The more laws that are passed, the more stupid things become. The Bible I read tells me to love GOD, be responsible for myself, and take care of my neighbor. If I and everyone else does that, then everything else falls in place. I don't need the government or a political party to help me do that.
