Man kills 3, himself in dispute with daughter, sheriff says

Correction: Chaysten Williams, 4 months, was killed by his grandfather Tim Adams Tuesday. The gender of the infant was incorrect in this story.

Crawford County man shot and killed his daughter's boyfriend and two of his grandchildren Tuesday afternoon before shooting himself, Crawford County Sheriff Ron Brown said.

Tim Adams first shot Michael Williams, the boyfriend of Adams' daughter, Ashley Adams, with a shotgun outside the home at 2127 Old Rudy Road northwest of Alma, Brown said. Next, he shot his 4-month-old granddaughter, who was in a car seat in a vehicle parked outside. He then shot his

4-year-old granddaughter in the back with the shotgun in the backyard of the residence, Brown said.

Authorities received a call about shots fired about 3 p.m. Tuesday.

When the first officer arrived at the scene, Tim Adams was in the front yard talking on his cellphone, Brown said. Williams and the 4-month-old girl who was Williams' child with Ashley Adams were dead in the front yard.

When the officer called Tim Adams by name, Brown said, Adams turned and the officer saw he had the shotgun. Adams dropped the cellphone and shot himself, Brown said.

Tim Adams was angry with his daughter over her court date Tuesday, Brown said. They argued in the house, then Tim Adams left. Shortly after, Ashley Adams and Tim Adams' wife, who were both inside, heard a gunshot and saw that Williams had been shot.

Ashley Adams ran outside and got into a scuffle with her father as Tim Adams tried to shoot the 4-month-old. He ran to the driver's side of the vehicle and shot the baby in the upper torso, Brown said.

Ashley Adams grabbed the baby and ran as Tim Adams pursued her into the house, where his wife was with Ashley Adams' 4-year-old daughter. The two women ran out the back door with the 4-year-old, and Tim Adams shot the child in the backyard, Brown said.

He did not identify Tim Adams' wife.
