Drillers rough up Oye, overcome Travelers

Christhian Adames and Kiel Roling each went 2 for 5, and Adames’ RBI single in the sixth inning helped the Tulsa Drillers beat the Arkansas Travelers 6-5 on Saturday night in front of an announced crowd of 7,746 at ONEOK Field in Tulsa.

The game was tied at 4-4 in the bottom of the sixth inning when the Drillers rallied against Travs reliever Matt Oye (6-8). Tim Smalling began the inning with a walk and was sacrificed to second by Jayson Langfels. Delta Cleary (Jonesboro) singled to put runners on first and third. Smalling was out at home on Jaron Shepherd’s fielder’s choice. Adames then lined a single to center field to score Cleary for a 5-4 lead.

Kiel Roling led off the bottom of the seventh with his 22th home run of the season to extend Tulsa’s lead to 6-4.

The Travs pulled to within 6-5 in the top of the eighth when C.J. Cron (2 for 4) came home on Carlos Ramirez’ groundout. But with Kaleb Cowart on second, Ryan Jones struck out to end the Travs’ threat.

Cole White earned his 12th save for the Drillers.

Michael Roth, who made his first start with Arkansas after being optioned Wednesday by the Los Angeles Angels, allowed 4 runs on 5 hits in 2 2/3 innings.

The Travs took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first on Cyle Hankerd and Robbie Widlansky’s RBI singles. The lead didn’t last long, as Tulsa scored three runs in the bottom of the second for a 3-2 lead. The Drillers added a run in the third to make it 4-2, but the Travs tied the game at 4-4 in the fourth on Cowart’s RBI single and Jones’ run-scoring double.
