Two guns were fired during a shootout that left two people injured at a Waffle House in Little Rock this week, a police report released Wednesday shows.
The account differed from how police initially described the shooting.
According to the report, an unidentified, masked gunman entered the restaurant at 201 N. Shackleford Road early Monday morning, told a woman "Excuse me, sweetie" as he pushed her aside, and then shot 21-year-old Devante Jones in the chest and right forearm.
Jones "jumped up and returned fire," striking a Waffle House employee in the right arm and upper shoulder.
The masked gunman then fled the scene.
A witness at the scene reported seeing Jones place an unknown item in a vehicle in the parking lot outside "at the time of the incident," the report said. Authorities later searched the vehicle and found a "clear plastic bag with [an] unknown hard white substance" in it, the report said.
On Monday, police said the shooting occurred after an argument between the gunman and a patron at the restaurant. There was no indication then that Jones returned fire.
Jones is listed on the report as a victim and a suspect for the charge of first-degree battery. Little Rock police Lt. Sidney Allen said he didn't have any information on whether Jones would actually be charged with a crime and that it would likely be forwarded to the prosecutor's office for that determination to be made.
