Rehabbing Harrison helps beat Travelers

The Arkansas Travelers couldn’t solve a former major-league All-Star on Tuesday in the final game of a six-game road trip to open the season.

Frisco starter Matt Harrison held Arkansas to 1 run on 3 hits and struck out 3 in 42/3 innings in a 4-2 victory at Dr Pepper Ballpark in Frisco, Texas.

Harrison, a 2012 All-Star with the Texas Rangers, was making his first start in a rehab stint with the Class AA RoughRiders after being limited to two starts last season because of back surgery.

Harrison retired the first six batters he faced, pitched around a single by Shawn O’Malley and an error in the third, and held the Travs hitless in the fourth. In the fifth, with Frisco leading 1-0, Jett Bandy led off with a double and scored on Andy Workman’s double to right field to tie it at 1-1.

Workman’s double ended Harrison’s outing, but the Travs were held to 1 run on 3 hits over the final 4 1/3 innings by relievers Martire Garcia and Edwar Cabrera.

Frisco got to Arkansas starter Mark Sappington in the sixth when Rougned Odor singled, Jake Smolinski walked and Drew Robinson doubled to score Odorand make it 2-1. Reliever Ryan Chaffee then retired Trever Adams on a pop-up before walking Tomas Telis and giving up a two-run single to Ryan Rua that made it 4-1.

Arkansas made it 4-2 in the eighth when Yarbrough doubled and scored on Kaleb Cowart’s single.
