Gov. Mike Beebe tours Vilonia on Monday, April 28, 2014, the day after the town was ravaged by a tornado.

LITTLE ROCK — Arkansas Gov. Mike Beebe has asked for a Major Disaster Declaration for Faulkner County, which was hit hardest by a deadly tornado that rolled through the state.

Beebe's office said Monday the governor made the request verbally to FEMA regional officials, and said it will be supported by damage assessments in the coming days. Beebe is requesting both individual and public assistance, and his office said federal disaster requests are possible for other counties as well.

Beebe earlier Monday issued state disaster declarations for Faulkner, Pulaski and White counties. Federal Emergency Management Agency Administrator Craig Fugate visited both Mayflower and Vilonia Monday afternoon.

The Sunday night tornado killed at least 15 people in Arkansas.
