Where I live: I live in a cozy little home in west Little Rock with my wife, Mary, and our dog, Rufus (who looks like a cross between Benji and a dust mop).

Occupation: I am an artist. One of my paintings, Cain and Abel, was chosen for inclusion in the "State of the Art" exhibition at Crystal Bridges Museum.

My favorite space is: The sunroom at the back of the house.

Why? The morning is my favorite time of the day, and the time when I best translate ideas into images. I do my painting in my studio in Hillcrest, but I do a lot of my planning at home. I sketch, read, and do research in the sunroom while listening to songbirds. Mary is a bird lover. With a few well-placed and well-stocked feeders she has made the backyard a miniature aviary. There is great north-facing light in the room, so even on cloudy days it is the brightest place in the house. It also functions as a great place to entertain. Each morning, we start our day early with coffee and conversation on the couch. Rufus has claimed a shag rug as his favorite spot to sit. The rug was white when it was acquired. However, Rufus has transformed it into a light gray.

If I could make one change to improve this space, I would: Purchase a darker rug for Rufus.
