Pursuit of auto-theft suspects leads to lockdown of LR school

Two boys are in police custody Thursday after a reported auto theft, which initiated a short pursuit by authorities and led to a temporary lockdown of a Little Rock high school.

According to a report from the Little Rock Police Department, the auto-theft victim told police that two unidentified juvenile males had stolen their car, a green 2003 Toyota Camry, around 8:50 a.m. near 2113 Scotty Court.

An officer was able to pull the car over on Elkhart Drive, less than a mile from where it was stolen, where two boys then got out of the car and fled on foot. One boy was caught quickly, while the second was found some time later underneath a car at 2518 Vancouver Drive, about three blocks from where they were pulled over.

The brief search required a lockdown of Little Rock Parkview High School for about 45 minutes, police spokesman Lt. Sidney Allen said. Both boys were charged with two counts of theft of property, a felony. While the auto theft constitutes one count for each suspect, Allen said it was unclear of why both were charged with the second theft count.
