Flags to fly half-staff for forestry pilot who died in crash

Gov. Mike Beebe has ordered flags to fly at half-staff Saturday to honor Jake Harrell, the Arkansas Forestry Commission pilot who died when his plane crashed while he searched for wildfires.

Harrell's plane went down Jan. 31, but the crash site in a remote part of the Ouachita National Forest in Montgomery County wasn't found until Tuesday. Poor weather complicated the intensive, 12-day search through a large expanse of rugged terrain.

Funeral services for Harrell, who was also a North Little Rock police officer, are set for 10 a.m. Saturday at the First Assembly of God Church in North Little Rock, 4501 Burrow Road. A visitation at the same location is set from 5-7 p.m. Friday.
