The longtime president of the Arkansas Trucking Association is leaving to focus on an investment and public affairs firm he created last year, the group announced Monday.

Lane Kidd has led the trade group, which represents such Arkansas-based companies as J.B. Hunt Transport Services Inc. and the corporate fleets of Wal-Mart Stores Inc. and Tyson Foods Inc., since 1992. He will step down to focus on The Kidd Group LLC, which provides services in the transportation industry.

“I’ve wanted to pursue my own projects for some time now and there are many opportunities out there, so this feels like a good time to say goodbye to the ATA,” Kidd said in a statement. “My career as ATA president has been a phenomenal experience, and I’m handing the keys over with ATA looking much better than it did 22 years ago.”

Gary Salisbury, chairman of the trucking association, said plans for naming Kidd's successor will be announced soon.
