Well, what did you think of the Academy Award nominations? Philip Martin’s favorite film from last year wasn’t one of the the nine films nominated for Best Picture — in fact it didn’t secure any major nominations. Is this a sign of a very rich film year or is the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences just a bunch of muttonheads? Martin gives his opinion in this week’s MovieStyle.

Otherwise, we’re still in the January doldrums — I, Frankenstein wasn’t screened for critics, so the only new movie we’re assaying is the gritty independent drama Gimme Shelter (which has nothing to do with the Rolling Stones), a movie in which Vanessa Hudgens moves even further from her Disney Girl origins by playing a pregnant, homeless teenager.
