A 38-year-old Baxter County man has been arrested in the sexual assaults of two children, authorities said.

Brian A. Maxwell, who lives in the rural Gassville area, is facing two counts of rape and one count of second-degree sexual assault.

The Baxter County sheriff's office said in a statement that detectives began investigating Monday after receiving a complaint that Maxwell "had engaged in sexual contact" with a 9-year-old girl and a 4-year-old girl who are related to him.

Police reportedly searched Maxwell's home and seized a computer and thumb drives.

"During subsequent interview, Maxwell admitted to the accusations made against him," Sheriff John F. Montgomery said in the statement.

Maxwell is being held in lieu of $250,000 bond. A July 17 court date is set.
