Poyen teacher named Rural Teacher of the Year

LITTLE ROCK — Poyen Public Schools math teacher Ouida Newton has been named the 2014 Arkansas Rural Teacher of the Year by the by the Arkansas Rural Education Association and the Electric Cooperatives of Arkansas.

Newton has taught at Poyen since 1979 and says her goal is to not only teach math but to teach her students to be problem solvers and lifelong learners.

Newton received a Bachelor of Science degree in education from Henderson State University and a Master of library and informational science degree from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.
