Inmate dies at detention center in Arkansas

FORT SMITH, Ark. — A 39-year-old inmate has died at the Sebastian County Adult Detention Center.

Lt. Philip Pevehouse with the Sebastian County Sheriff's Office says Amanda Potter was found unresponsive in her holding cell at about 4 a.m. Saturday.

Pevehouse says authorities attempted life-saving procedures before emergency responders arrived and transported Potter to a hospital. Potter was pronounced dead about 4:45 a.m.

The sheriff's office says Potter was arrested for several warrants and arrived at the detention center on Friday evening.

The Arkansas State Crime Lab is conducting an autopsy. The Arkansas State Police is conducting an investigation into the death while the Sebastian County Sheriff's Office conducts its own internal investigation.
