Human Services' County Operations Director Jones to retire

The Department of Human Services announced Tuesday that its Division of County Operations Director Joni Jones will be retiring next month.

Jones, 58, is set to retire Aug. 31. She has been with the department since 1978 and has since been involved in "successful efforts to modernize and automate much of the casework for public assistance programs statewide," the department said in a statement. She has served in her current role since 2001.

Human Services Director John Selig described Jones as "a remarkable and steady leader during a time of tremendous change."

Jones said "no one had even heard of a fax machine" when she began working with the department. "Now we work with electronic case records and online applications and everything is processed and stored in a ‘cloud,’” she said. “We’ve come a long way.”

Selig has tapped the division's Assistant Director Delia Anderson, 49, as Jones' replacement. She currently manages the division's Office of Community Services. Anderson has worked with the department for eight years.

“Delia is the kind of leader that earns the respect of her staff by showing integrity, consistency and honesty,” Selig said in the news release. “She has a great deal of knowledge about [the division's] programs, and I have no doubt that the division staff will feel comfortable following her lead.”
