On November 19, 1863, President Abraham Lincoln gave a two-minute speech at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, in which he uttered a few words capturing the essence of the Declaration of Independence. At the end of his great message he declared a powerful truth about our nation, stating "that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth."
